Open Garden at Melba, Point Roadknight, Anglesea

Firepit and outdoor setting sit comfortably in this coastal garden Coastal garden thriving in harsh conditions

Visit Melba, along with Sunnymeade in Anglesea. At Melba, a Robin Boyd house sits peacefully in a native garden on the cliff above Point Roadknight. In 2015 the owners undertook a major redesign of the garden respecting the original design and creating a garden for harsh coastal conditions under large existing Eucalypts. Local yellow sandstone and red-coloured ironstone have been used to great effect. The new stone in the garden paths, steps and fire pit area, link with the original stonework and the rambling garden walls. Inspiration was drawn from landscapers such as Edna Walling, Ellis Stones and Gordon Ford. The fire pit and stonework are key features of the central back garden. The muted and verdant understory sits beneath graceful gums. Guest speakers: Saturday 27 at 4.00pm – Nick Day from Otway Indigenous Nursery will talk on using indigenous plants in the garden Saturday 28 Jan at 4.00pm – Peter Shaw from Ocean Road Landscaping will talk on creating coastal gardens.
