The Anglesea Holiday Retreat is located a short drive from the popular Anglesea Surf Beach (2km) and the protected Point Roadknight Beach (3km). Both beaches are patrolled during the summer holiday season and are great for families.
The Anglesea Golf Club is close by and the kangaroos can be seen on the 12th hole from neighbouring McMahon Avenue. In fact, its not unusual to have kangaroos pass through the adjacent properties during the early morning and early evening.
Beautiful native birds can be a regular accompaniment with magpies, kookaburras and colourful king parrots often found at eye level in the trees beside the elevated deck.
The surrounding Anglesea Heath offers some of the richest and most diverse vegetation in Victoria. Around a quarter of Victoria's plant species can be found here including over 80 different types of orchids. Spring time can be particularly spectacular as the heathland erupts into a sea of vibrant colour.
With a variety of bush, coast and heathland to be explored in the area, Anglesea is a fantastic place to put on your walking shoes. Enjoy a pleasant 20-minute stroll from the main surf beach to Point Roadknight or try the Point Addis Koorie Cultural Walk to see some amazing birdlife and wildflowers in the spring and early summer.
There are plenty of fishing spots nearby with the Anglesea River hosting species of bream, whiting and small snapper near the river mouth. The ledge at the tip of Point Roadknight at low tide provides excellent fishing for flounder, salmon and snapper on calm days.
Anglesea is at the Melbourne end of the Great Ocean Road with its myriad attractions including Bells Beach, the Otway Ranges and the 12 Apostles. This diverse and dramatic region takes in surf beaches, historic ports, whale lookouts, breathtaking mountain ranges, rainforests and national parks.
